Cleveland County Special Programs This page has been designed to help you find quickly and easily the information as it pertains to your CLEVELAND COUNTY NC COOPERATIVE EXTENSION CENTER. Cleveland County Beekeepers Association The Cleveland County Beekeepers Association feels that the most effective way to learn beekeeping and to stay up-to-date on successful beekeeping methods. The best way to do this is to join and be active in a local chapter of the NCSBA, which meets frequently and provides personal advice from beekeepers in the local community. Along with having the benefit of having Specialists from the NC Cooperative Extension, NCDA, and NCSU specialists, along with other professionals at most meetings to help local beekeepers find answers to those unBEEleavable questions that arise as a result of this hobby. The association promotes beekeeping as a hobby or as a livelihood,and educates and stimulates the interest of the general public in the benefits of honey bees and beekeeping. Membership for the local chapter is $7 annually. Cleveland County Cattlemen's Association Cleveland County Cattlemen's Association (CCCA) is a non-profit educational organization that serves to promote the beef industry in and around Cleveland County. Persons or firms interested in the production, marketing, or consumption of beef are eligible to join. Membership is $10 annually. Foothills Farmers' Market is a certified grower market which operates on Washington Street in Uptown Shelby each Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. The 2009 season runs from April 25th through October 31st. Foothills Fresh- Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln Counties The farmers of Foothills Fresh welcome you to use this guide to taste the flavors of the foothills. Foothills Goat and Sheep Producers Association Foothills Goat & Sheep Producers Association, a tax-exempt educational organization (EIN 30520392), works to promote the goat and sheep industry in the foothills region of the Carolinas. Extension and Community Association The Extension and Community Association (ECA) is an adult volunteer organization closely affiliated with NC Cooperative Extension. You will also become part of a dynamic volunteer organization that promotes personal growth and development and seeks to enhance the quality of life for others in the local community. The mission of Leadership Development, Volunteer Work, Educational Support, Research-based education from North Carolina State University and North Carolina A&T State University. ServSafe® is a 16 hour Food Safety Certification Course, which teaches cost-effective food safety practices for the foodservice establishment. The curriculum was designed by the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association. Successful completion of the course allows a food service establishment in the state of North Carolina to receive two additional points on their health inspection. EFNEP: NC Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program The EFNEP program reaches out to limited-resource famlies with young children through a series of lessons. Taught by para-professionals and volunteers. Using "hands-on" experiences, clients participate in a six-lesson or more series on stretching food dollars, improving eating habits, and practicing food safety principles. Extension Basketry Program and Class Schedule The Basketry Program offers opportunities for students to exercise individual creativity, learn heritage skills, and generate additional income by producing high quality, hand-made baskets. Classes are conducted by master volunteers for youth and adults at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Students are taught to read and understand directions, to select and use superior quality raw materials, to develop a varitey of time-tested basket weaving techniques, and to use their own creativity to enhance and personalize their products. Instructors emphasize the importance of learning basket-making terminology, and stress the use of construction details that improve craftsmanship and ensure that baskets provide years of use and enjoyment. 4-H Summer Fun is a collection of educational workshops, field trips, and hands-on activities planned especially for Cleveland County Youth. This program is sponsored by the Cleveland County Cooperative Extension, 4-H program. These activities are open to all young people in Cleveland County, ages 5-18. Five year olds registering for classes must have completed kindergarten. You do not have to be a 4-H member to participate, so bring your friends. Programs vary in cost from $5.00 & up.
