Tree Canopy Walking Tour in Uptown Shelby

— Written By N.C. Cooperative Extension

On March 30, 2019, Extension Horticulture Agent Julie Flowers led a walking tour to teach the public about the tree canopy around Historic Court Square in Uptown Shelby.

The County has had Extension specialists, arborists, tree service professionals, and forest rangers evaluate the condition of these trees in recent months. Many of the trees are healthy and thriving and will be pruned in the coming months. However, there are some trees that are not native to this area and are not thriving. The trees that are not healthy pose a risk to public safety. Those trees will be removed and replaced with trees that are native to this area including white and red oaks.
