We are excited to have two summer interns in Cleveland County this year, Emily Chandler and Nautica Mason. A Cooperative Extension summer intern works with Extension personnel to deliver hands-on, educational programs. Job shadowing and mentoring helps our interns learn about the mission and work of North Carolina Cooperative Extension. They have each written a short introduction for you to learn a little about them.
Emily, Summer intern 2021
Hello! My name is Emily Chandler and I am an NC State Extension summer intern for Cleveland County. I am from Washington County, where I was a member of the Farmview 4-H Club and participated in county 4-H programming- everything from summer camp and presentations to sewing classes and raising chickens! 4-H was a big part of my life growing up, and I am looking forward to being a part of the Cooperative Extension and 4-H programs here in Cleveland County. I am a student at NC State University majoring in Applied Nutrition, and I hope to earn a minor in Spanish. Due to COVID-19, my freshman year was a challenging one, but I’m anticipating a great sophomore year as things become more “normal.” When I’m not busy studying or working, I like to read, eat ice cream with my friends, and be outside with my cows.
2021 summer intern NauticaHello everyone! My name is Nautica Mason. I was born and raised in Shelby NC. I graduated from Shelby High School in 2016 where I was cheerleader for the golden lions as well as a distinguished image recipient. I recently graduated from East Carolina University in 2020 with my bachelor’s degree in Public Health, specifically concentrating in community health. I decided to further my education, and I am currently a graduate student at East Carolina earning my master’s in Public Health. I currently work as a driver’s license examiner at the DMV in Charlotte, NC. I love interacting with others and helping my community in any way that I can. Due to this desire, I am excited to share that I will be interning with N.C. Cooperative Extension in Cleveland County, focused on the 4-H and Family & Consumer Sciences programs this summer. I am super excited to begin working with an organization that has a positive impact on the growing generations in my community. I am eager to meet new families, learn new things, and create fun experiences this summer.
