Interested in learning more about plants, flowers, trees, insects, gardening, lawns and more? Consider taking our fun and nationally known Extension Master Gardener℠ program to help improve your horticulture skills! This program is designed to enhance public education of horticulture in our communities and is supported by NC State University!

As a participant in the Master Gardener program of Alexander County, you will receive training in all aspects of horticulture including fruit and vegetable production, lawn care, weed/insect/disease ID and control, propagation, botany basics, gardening with natives and much more! After the training, if you wish to be certified as a Master Gardener volunteer, you will have the opportunity to provide 40 hours of volunteer service. This can be done by either judging 4-H gardens, planting or caring for community or public gardens/landscaping, or assisting with educational programs through the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Alexander County Center.

Most classes for the 2022 series of trainings will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesdays starting February 15th and ending May 17th. Some demonstration classes will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. and there will be some Saturday field trips that will be added, but not required. Classes will be taught in multiple locations including the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Alexander County Center, three at outdoor settings, and several at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Caldwell County Center. This is going to be one GREAT YEAR!!! We have recruited outstanding speakers, presenters, and subject matter specialists to meet the needs for this year’s programming.

Applications for the program will be accepted through February or until the class is full, whichever comes first. The cost is $125 which will be used to cover the costs of the Master Gardener Notebook, hands-on supplies, and field trip expenses. Call the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Alexander County Center at 632-4451 for more information, or to register for the 2022 Extension Master Gardener program of Alexander County. Please plan to register now as the class often fills up!
