Small Flock Poultry Processing Class

Are you interested in processing backyard poultry or a small flock for personal consumption or for direct-to-consumer meat sales?  If so, a Small Flock Poultry Processing Class being offered by N.C. Cooperative Extension in cooperation with Cleveland Community College's Poultry Management Program  will teach you how to process birds safely and in compliance with applicable laws & regulations.
  • Date & Time: Thursday, October 30 from 9:30 AM until 3 PM
  • Location: Cleveland County Extension Center, 130 S. Post Rd, Shelby, NC 28152
  • Cost: $20 per person
The morning classroom session is being taught by NC State Poultry Specialists and NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services staff.  After lunch you can choose to participate in either:
  • an outdoor hands-on demonstration on how to process meat chickens using a Mobile Poultry Processing Unit, or
  • an indoor kitchen demonstration on how to chill and package freshly processed birds
