Collapse ▲Cleveland County Extension & Community Association members hosted their annual Achievement Luncheon at the Extension Center on March 7, 2025 with more than 60 people attending. Guests included West District Extension Director Steve Duckett, all five County Commissioners, the County Manager and several county administrators, agency partners, Extension staff, and family and friends.
Following a delicious meal, the program highlighted the NVON Project-in-Common and the theme “Bees & Butterflies – Important Pollinators Who Help Feed the World.” FCS Agent Nancy Abasiekong, and Cleveland County Library System Adult Services Manager Adriene Jones shared information about the local Seed Library Project, funded through NC State Extension Steps to Health. ECA members have supported this project since its beginning in 2021. Library staff created a display that showcased the project. County Issues Coordinators and Vice Coordinators shared highlights and photos from programs & projects conducted throughout 2024.
ECA members were recognized for awards and recognitions received throughout the year:
- 2024 Outstanding Volunteer – Karen Hubbard
- 2024 CVU recipients – Valerie Boyd, Mary Sue Boyles, Judy Canipe, Linda Carpenter, Pat Farley, Karen Hubbard, Mary Lee Jones, Meriel Peeler, and Jean Ann Privett
- 2024 NCECA West District Leadership Award – Pat Farley
Cleveland County ECA earned the NCECA Gold Award of Excellence. Council President Pat Farley presented the County Commissioners a Certificate of ECA Volunteer Service Hours valued at $161,767. Commission Chairman Kevin Gordon accepted the certificate and thanked ECA members for their dedication and many contributions to the county.
