If you have a passion for gardening, the Extension Master Gardener Program can help you improve your horticultural knowledge, hone your gardening skills, and join a team of more than 60 trained volunteers who are excited about lifelong learning and educating Cleveland County residents on environmentally conscious, research-based horticultural information from NC State and NC A&T State universities.

The 2025 course will be offered on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. beginning August 20 and ending November 19 (14 consecutive weeks) at the Cleveland County Extension Center, located at 130 S. Post Road in Shelby, NC. The registration fee is $125 (cash or check made payable to “N.C. Cooperative Extension”.

Initial orientation meetings will be held at the Cleveland County Extension Center:

  • Wednesday, August 6 at 10 a.m.
  • Wednesday, August 13 at 4:30 p.m.

Please bring your completed application and registration payment to one of these sessions.   To help us in planning, please email Betty Jean Blanton of your intent to apply for the program and which orientation session you plan to attend. If you cannot attend either orientation session, let Betty Jean know so that we can schedule one-on-one orientation for you.
